Campus Visitor Expectations

These expectations are issued pursuant to Chancellor Rebecca Blank’s authority under UWS Chapter 18.11(7)(e) to establish access to UW–Madison lands and buildings in accordance with her responsibility for the health, safety, and welfare of the university.

Visitor Access to Campus Buildings & Bathrooms

UW–Madison is currently unable to provide access to campus buildings or campus bathrooms at this time. We are unable to make exceptions to our current Safer Badgers policies for admitted and prospective students and their families. For more information on campus rules and restrictions, please review the most updated FAQs regarding visitor policies on campus on our COVID Response website.

Face Coverings

All individuals accessing university lands must wear face coverings outside when not able to physically distance or when traveling in a group of two or more individuals. We are unable to provide face coverings to visitors.

Physical Distancing

All individuals using outdoor spaces on university lands must maintain physical distancing of at least six (6) feet from others who are not part of their household/party, at all times.

Bathroom Access

The University Book Store (711 State Street) on Library Mall welcomes visitors and has public bathrooms. Bathroom access in campus buildings is not currently available to visitors. Visitors may choose to seek out other public restrooms located off-campus in the downtown Madison area.

COVID-19 Symptoms and Exposure

We ask that all visitors to campus  utilize the Symptom Checker prior to arriving at UW–Madison.

Visitors should not visit UW–Madison if they/their guest are feeling unwell or if they had close contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19 in the last 14 days.

Visiting UW–Madison is not advised for those who have an increased risk for developing complications from COVID-19.

To ensure both your health and safety and the health and safety of our campus community, it is imperative that you follow the guidelines outlined above.
